HAZARDOUS ENGAGEMENT: GOD MAKES A FRIEND
This is Patricia Williams's brief spiritual autobiography, written in the form of letters to the divine. It recounts seven years of extraordinary spiritual experiences.
In a darkened Episcopal church one evening, Pat felt herself called to a deeper relationship with God. Confused because her life seemed secular, she nonetheless responded, asking God to direct her spiritual growth. In silence, waiting for God's response, she received dream-like visions that led her, eventually, to embrace Quakerism, with its emphasis on divine light within everyone. During this time, she explored ways of worship other than Episcopalianism, from the silence of Quakers to the vibrancy of Pentecostal praise-singing to Catholic eucharistic ritual. Everywhere, in all forms of worship, she found the spirit present, humble, and active.
